OFCs: The bedrock of Smart Era

Fiber-optic technology has seen an immense surge in use in the last decade. Different types of fibers have been innovated to meet the increasing application-requirements on modern networks. As the demand for data has grown exponentially in recent times worldwide, we need Optical Fiber Cables (OFCs) for high-speed, high-capacity, low-latency and resilient 5G broadband networks, which will meet the demands of the increasing data-intensive applications. Apart from being compact and flexible, OFCs can carry large amounts of data at very high speeds from one end of the city to the other, to work as a great support for communications-infrastructure, including the cloud-based systems. Advantages like huge bandwidths, low latency, reduced possibility of cross-talk, electrical isolation, small size, low cost, signal security, ruggedness and flexibility, provided by OFCs, have helped installers to build new connection highways, achieve transmission-rate of tens of millions of Mbps, bear smooth data-transmission capabilities and deliver high-speed applications. Telecom networks have become data-centric networks. In fact, OFCs have become one of the essential pillars of this smart era. Successful fiber-optic installations are increasing by the day in India and the world. Govt. of India’s BharatNet, world’s largest rural broadband project, aims to connect more than 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in the country with high-speed broadband through OFCs. As per the latest Internet in India Report 2025, around 548 million Indians in rural areas use Internet today, symbolizing India’s constant move towards deploying OFC-based internet. At the domestic level, the Indian OFC-market stood at USD 881.5 million in 2019 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 17.2% from 2019 to 2026 to reach almost USD 1.66 billion by 2026. India manufactures 100 million fiber kms every year, with the domestic annual consumption of less than half of the manufacturing capacity at 46 million fiber kms. We’ve been exporting 16 million fiber kms of OFCs annually to more than 100 countries for the last few years

Polycab Telecom, a division of Polycab India Ltd., is engaged in manufacturing and distribution of Optical Fiber Cables (OFCs). With a high degree of in-house Backward Integration and Automation capabilities, we offer global, innovative and scalable fiber-optic cabling solutions to support the deployment of high-speed broadband-networks for across all segments. We’ve a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, spread over 40000+ sq ms, where we innovate and integrate technologies to create world-class OFCs, from 6 cores to 576 cores.
